I was laid down on a comfortable bed, just like a waterbed, with my head outside the machine.
My husband was with me and I was able to speak to him all the time. The only inconvenience was during those few seconds when the machine focused the ultrasound; I felt cramps as if I was in my period.
However, they disappeared as soon as the machine stopped focusing the ultrasound. Mostly, I felt a mild feeling of warmth. So I can say the experience was practically painless.
When the procedure was over, I felt as if nothing had happened to me.
It seemed to me a much better option than having my abdomen cut open, and having to spend weeks of recovery at home.
Another very important advantage was that I could preserve my uterus, because in the future my husband and I wish our family to grow.
I recommend ExAblate as the first and best option to every woman who is in my situation.

ExAblate is the latest and most innovative procedure to treat uterine fibroids and bring to an end the symptoms caused by them.
We are currently offering THE LOWEST COST in the world for the ExAblate treatment: $5,122 USD (tax included), with the latest and most sofisticated equipments (all approved by the FDA); first-class attention to our patients; and a professional medical staff that comprises internationally certified doctors, backed by years of experience and of successful application of the procedure, with effective results.
This cost includes, FOR FREE, the airport-hotel-airport transportation in Mexico City via the Holiday Inn shuttle (available by reservation), and up to a two-night stay for two people in a double room at the Holiday Inn hotel, located within our hospital facilities.
As operational expenses are much lower in Mexico City than in the U.S, we are able to deliver the ExAblate treatment at such exceptional cost, while meeting and maintaining the highest and first-rate standards of quality and service.
Our clinic is part of one of the biggest and most renowned hospitals in our country: Médica Sur, a world-class health and medical institution that performs every kind of medical procedure and service, with the aid of the latest and most innovative state-of-the-art technology.
To suit your best convenience and safety, we have designed a service for you that is planned in a way that you never leave a safe and controlled environment: Once your airplane arrives in Mexico City’s International Airport, the Holiday Inn shuttle will pick you up, and take you directly to your hotel—The Holiday Inn that is based in the same grounds of the Médica Sur hospital complex, where our Magnetic Resonance Imaging Unit is also located (and where your procedure will be performed).
After your procedure is over and you leave our Unit, and after checking out of the hotel, the Holiday Inn shuttle will take you back to the airport, with enough hours ahead of the departure time of your return flight.
This plan ensures complete safety for you, throughout the entire two-to-three-day duration of your trip and stay in Mexico City.
ExAblate is the most advanced and scientifically recognized method to alleviate the bothersome symptoms produced by fibroids, while preserving the uterus and the possibility of a future pregnancy. This method is performed through the combination of two state-of-the-art technologies:
Ultrasound and magnetic resonance work together as follows:
Planning the magnetic resonance treatment.
First, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MR) is used to draw a topogram of the uterus, which will render an accurate and tridimensional image of the fibroid(s) that, in turn, will allow planning how the fibroid(s) ablation will be conducted during the focalized ultrasound procedure.
Focalized ultrasound for fibroid ablation.
A guided focused ultrasound is subsequently used, delivering high intensity waves on the fibroids. This raises the temperature of the fibroid cells high enough to destroy them. The body then naturally absorbs all dead cells.
Magnetic resonance for the supervision and management of the treatment.
The guided focused ultrasound treatment is supervised through a magnetic resonance device showing the fibroid in a three-dimensional view. It reports in real time the temperature rise of the cells. Because of this ability to visualize what is being treated in the patient’s body, this is how radiologists accurately guide the destruction of the fibroids.

The procedure lasts an average of four hours. The patient is received and mildly sedated so that she can relax while remaining conscious all the time. Next, she lies prone on an especially designed bed that will ensure comfort. Then, her lower back is introduced into the magnetic resonance device.
Once settled in place, the equipment starts to ablate the fibroid(s) through 20-second ultrasound wave emissions (sonications) with 1-to-1.5-minute intervals of resting cooling phases. The patient can communicate with the doctors by means of sound equipment, and has a special button she can press on whenever she feels pain or has anything else to report.
When the session has finished, the patient gets up and rests until the sedation effects have worn off (about one or two hours later). She may go home afterwards and resume her daily life the very next day or within 36 hours at most after the treatment.
The Magnetic Resonance Imaging Unit based in Médica Sur is the only center in Mexico where ExAblate 2000 is available.
This procedure offers the following advantages:
When fibroids are the agents causing infertility, ExAblate renders future pregnancy possible once the fibroids have been ablated, because the uterus is preserved and the overall negative symptomatology recedes.
The ExAblate procedure has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and by the Ministry of Health in Mexico, as an effective therapy for the treatment of uterine fibroids, when the patient wishes to preserve her uterus.
This procedure is currently available in very few countries, and the Unit of Magnetic Resonance Imaging at Médica Sur is the only institution in Mexico to offer it exclusively.
